About us
Come Prima is a community based wind band, established for 25 years.
Run by Helen Peiro, Come Prima offers an evening of fun and music for all wind, brass and percussion players. We have a large and varied repertoire and a full complement of instruments.
Whether you’re in the earliest stages of learning your instrument, or you have been playing for some time, you are most welcome to come along and join us.
We don’t decide if you’re good enough to join us. If you come along and enjoy yourself, which we are confident you will, then you’ll want to come back. Read some of our testimonials from band members to find out what being in Come Prima means to them.
Solo practice in the early stages for musicians can feel unrewarding and is hard work. We know you will find that being part of our ensemble and performing in concerts and events with us really rewarding. We have pieces specifically in mind that support the beginner player, whilst offering the more able player to brush up on the foundations of music making. The constantly expanding repertoire also contains pieces to stretch players of a higher ability, and to train the ear to really listen to enhance playing in an ensemble situation.
We offer the opportunity for G.C.S.E. and higher education music students to have a go at conducting and score reading. You don’t have to be studying music to have a go, just let Helen know if you’d like an opportunity to conduct.
With the more able players as section leaders, you will learn band etiquette and this helps the more novice players to master new skills.
Above all we will be having fun!!
Rehearsals
Rehearsals take place every week during term time, between 7 and 9pm (with coffee and cake break).
